Democracy Day Message: Guber aspirant, Michael Okpo Onofiok preaches peace and unity

Michael Okpo Onofiok, Guber aspirant and Maritime Expert

Governorship hopeful and Marine Expert, Michael Onofiok has called on Nigerians to leave in peace and unity with one another.
This was contained in the democracy day message issued by the Maritime Expert and a guber candidate in the forthcoming election in Akwa Ubom State on Thursday.
Onofiok called on every Nigerian to ponder and have a deep rethink about our state and country, for the time is now.
The communiqué as obtained by IbomCelebs reads.
WAIT A MINUTE.
I believe it is morally expedient for me to wake up every morning and exchange greetings and pleasantries with friends and even others that I may run into in the course of the day, the same way I wake up each day to give thanks and adoration to my God.
But today's greeting has a bold underline and an ebbing tone like that of a river returning to its source. I am consoled and so do I want you to be consoled by the fact that it is only the river that forgets it's source that shall surely dry.
I was almost tempted to flow with the notion that today can be accepted by us (Nigerians) as a "democracy day" but I could hear that little still voice from inside of me saying, that we need to understand the basic rudiments of democracy, that it is a call to service, it is social justice and equity, it is an attainment of social responsibility and respect for moral values, that it must always wear a human face, it is a change from the old to the new, from good to better, a complete change of attitude of brutality and primitivity to love, care and the fear of God whom in His infinite wisdom established this institution of democratic leadership.
It could have been better if today was named " handing over remembrance day", but then, questions would still be asked, handing over what? From who to who? From what system to what?
Let us at this point ponder and have a deep rethink about our state and country, for the time is now.
Is today really a democracy day?
