Ignatius Edet defends demolition of houses in A'Ibom State

Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) in Akwa Ibom State Mr. Ignatius Edet said yesterday that the recent demolition exercise carried out in the state was within the ambit of the law.
Addressing newsmen, he said: "It is unfortunate that some media houses and people decided to whip up sentiments by discrediting the efforts of the authority towards sanitizing the capital city in the overall public interest. Development control must be viewed beyond personal and selfish interests as a breach in planning laws by one would affect many in the long run."
He pointed out that an illegal building on a water way is likely to cause flooding. He noted that Uyo was in a deplorable state in terms of planning until the present administration headed by Governor Godswill Akpabio.
