Ibom LG crisis latest: Stakeholders seek govt. intertvention

The people of Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have appealed to the federal and Akwa Ibom State governments to intervene in the crisis in the area to prevent further loss of lives and property.
Our correspondent reports that a pregnant woman was killed last week in the crisis between Uda and Efiat communities over alleged discrepancies in the sharing of oil revenue accruing to them from oil companies operating in the area.

Speaking yesterday with our correspondent after a stakeholders meeting, Chairman of Mbo Local Government Area Mr Victor Antai said the crisis has reached a critical stage and needs federal and state governments intervention.

"Mbo crisis has overwhelmed me, that is why I brought these people here so that you can see the anger in them, talk to them, and see how we can meet with the state governor. God gave the oil to Mbo to better the lives of the people; but what we are seeing is quite the opposite as oil has brought us woes," he said.

He demanded for a meeting with Governor Akapbio to intimate him of the development and to solicit assistance to stop the killings in the land.

The Director of the State Security Service, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Thomas Minti, who was represented by the acting director, Mr Emmanuel Esumoni, and the state Commissioner of Police Umar Gwaddabe, appealed for calm and assured that those sponsoring the killings would be brought to book.
