Governor Akpabio |
The Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah told journalists in
Uyo, over the weekend that no additional financial implications would be
attached to their new designation as only the nomenclature would change with
all other things unchanged.
He explained that the change in the nomenclature in the state civil service were part of the 13-point decisions adopted by the state executive council after its four-day retreat held in Abuja, the federal capital territory.
He said, “Council approved the change in nomenclature of the State
Surveyor-General, Accountant-General and Auditor-General of Local Government to
be designated as Permanent Secretaries and emphasized that the slight change in
nomenclature has no additional financial implications for Government.”
Other decisions taken at the retreat were the lifting of embargo on
recruitment of staff into the state broadcasting corporation, Akwa Ibom
Broadcasting Corporation, AKBC, recruitment of 41 vehicle inspection officers,
recruitment of 60 chaplains for public secondary schools etc.
Justifying the recruitment into the state broadcasting stations,
Umanah stated that government was reviewing the over 20 years dismal personnel
situation in the establishment and has approved employment of personnel into
critical areas of the organisation.
“The executive reviewed
the dismal personnel situation at the Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation
and approved the recruitment of staff in critical areas, in order to check the
dearth of personnel at the corporation.”
Also approved at the retreat according to Umanah was a policy document
titled Akwa Ibom State Roadmap on Industrialisation.
