Akwa Ibom youths angry over Onofiok’s inability to attend AKISCOM youth empowerment launch in Lagos... Demand explanation

Rt. Honourable Onofiok Luke, Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is a man of the people any time any day. And honorable politicians that is admired by many Akwa Ibom youths in the state and in diaspora, but what many do not know about him is that he loves disappointing people, he doesn’t keep to his words.

Recently, the representatives of Akwa Ibom State Youths based in Lagos paid him a courtesy visit and officially invited him for the youth empowerment launch that was held in Lagos on December 3, 2016.  He was delighted at the visit and promised to honour the invitation.

As a follow up, a call was put upon to him  a day to the event to confirm his attendance, and he confirmed that he must be at the event unfailingly.

On the D-day, the ceremony was to kick start by 12noon, but as at 3pm the speaker was nowhere to be found. Calls were put across to him, but unfortunately  all his phones was switch off. His Protocols Officer could not be reached also.

And up till this moment, there is no explanation or apology from the Speaker on why he was unable to attend the event.

One could imagine the disappointment, embarrassment, after all the media hype about his coming on social and print media.

The youth who turned out in their large numbers were desirous and excited to see and watch the honorable speaker speak, but were disappointed and wondered why a man whom every youth hold in high esteem could behave in that way. As a man who suppose to be a role model to other youths, his attitude towards the invitation is discouraging.

When the organizer and other members were asked on how they feel about Onofiok Luke’s failure to attend the occasion, they said: “Well, we are shocked, in fact we are short of words, because a day to the event, we called to remind him about the event, he still confirmed and assured us of his coming, but to our greatest surprise, he is not here today. As you can see the event is going on well and fine, even without him. But it is sad and unfair for a respected Akwa Ibom son to treat his own people in this way.

Trust youth, they did not waste time to express their feelings about the speaker’s nonchalant behaviour.

In all these, IBOMCELEBS believes that, the honourable Speaker Onofiok Luke is a crowd  puller politician, he’s loved and admired by many Akwa Ibom Youths in the state and in diaspora, his contributions to the youths, less privileged etc. are well noticed. We believe that he will call the organizers to explain the reason he couldn’t attend the event. It could be that an emergency came up and that prevented him from attending the well-attended ceremony, yet no one knows until he speaks.
