Gov. Godswill Obot Akpabio
Akwa Ibom has recorded a lower turnout in schools this year, a development that has authorities concerned.
The State Commissioner for Education, Professor Atim Antai, registered her displeasure while monitoring schools across the region.
She appealed to parents to send their children to school and monitor their performance to enable them succeed in their academic endeavours.
The commissioner inspected time books, lessons notes, and general teaching at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Okobo, Government Primary School, Uya Oro, Methodist Senior Science College, Oron and Community Secondary School in Okuko, Urue Ofong.
Antai commended the orderliness and disciplinary disposition of the school and advised the teachers to carry out their mandatory aspect of effectively teaching the students to enable them pass their examinations.
She directed that the absentee teachers be queried and replies forwarded to her office.
Speaking at Government Primary School- Uya Oro, the commissioner expressed displeasure at the lack of commitment of teachers to duties pointing out that teachers were the problems in the school system.
She advised them to live close to their duty stations for easy access to their schools and for effective monitoring.
Antai meanwhile frowned at the situation whereby members of the public were using the school premises as a thoroughfare thereby causing accidents among pupils in the schools.
