Expect partial eclipse of the sun on Sunday – Dr. Seidu Mohammed

The Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency, Dr. Seidu Mohammed, has said that Nigerians will witness a partial or total solar eclipse on Sunday, November 3.

Mohammed, at a press briefing in Abuja, urged Nigerians not to panic over the course of the eclipse.

The National Museum, Oron, located behind Oron estuary, was opened to the public in 1959 with 800 ancestral images of the Oron in Akwa Ibom State.

MAN, Oron Alumni Europe to develop Maritime sector

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, Akwa Ibom State, Alumni, Europe Chapter, has expressed its readiness to partner international maritime organisations, Nigerian government and companies to develop the maritime sector of the economy.

The chapter, which comprises cadets that have graduated from MAN, Oron, Akwa Ibom State since the school was established over three decades ago, said the Nigerian maritime sector is in need of all the expertise at its disposal to ginger her growth and development.

ExxonMobil operations in its Qua Iboe Terminal, QIT, base in Eket , Akwa Ibom State, were brought to a halt on Thursday, as youth and indigenes of the oil communities took to the streets to protest the non-settlement of the N26.5 billion oil spill compensation.

Ibomcelebs gathered that the protest, which was staged simultaneously around the company's airstrip in Eket, Mobil Terminal in Ibeno, and Mobil Housing Estate in Eket, saw placard wielding indigenes of Eket Federal Constituency registering their displeasure over the alleged refusal of the company to fully settle the four oil producing local governments over the oil spill as previously proposed.

A'Ibom to establish 31 more industries before 2015

Akwa Ibom State government has reiterated its commitment to establish one industry in each of the 31 local government area of the state before the exit of the present administration in 2015.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment and Industrialisation, Chief Senas Ukpanah, gave the assurance during an interaction with a section of pressmen in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

Maritime Academy laments inadequate training facilities

ASUU Strike: Government blinks, agrees to spend N200b each for four years to bring Nigerian universities up to world standard

Towards ending the ongoing ASUU strike, the Federal Government has committed to spending N200 billion in the 2014 budget on the universities as well as on each of the next three-four years until the universities are brought to world-class standard. Flood takes over Uyo city

The road leading to Akwa Ibom Government House, Uyo (Wellington Bassey Way ), submerged by flood as a result of heavy down pour recently.

Akwa Ibom government is to receive N20 billion this year as refund for constructing federal roads, according to Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Works.

Ozomgbachi, who made this known in Uyo, said the balance of N23 billion would be included in next year’s budget, adding that it would also be refunded to the state government.

Our investigations revealed that this is as a result of the purported NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) election, claimed to have been conducted recently by a one-time self-acclaimed NANS JCC Chairman, Comrade Uduak Nseabasi; leading to the emergence of one Miss Otobong Vivian Akpan of Ini Local Government Area as the new NANS JCC Chairman for Akwa Ibom State.

The point is Essien road by Sanni Ogun by Chubb road junction in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area were a distributing company known as Esther and sons is located. The road has so far claimed not less than fifty five lives in the past one month. On the 29th of September, 2013, the road claimed two lives in less than twenty minutes which sent spines and tension down the spines of residents of the area.
