Onofiok Luke

•Trade conscience for N30m

•We’ll treat his fuck-up – Youths

The fisticuff which led to the manhandling of the member representing Nsit Ubium in the state house of assembly may have come and gone, but the memories will still linger in the mind of a great number of Akwa Ibom people.
One of such memories being that, Hon. Onofiok Luke is the first Ibibio lawmaker to have been beaten in the Annang Land in front of his boss- the Governor, and video clips of the beating produced an circulated
The Guide gathered on very good authority that, soon after the fisticuff, the house of assembly members mandated the governor to ensure that both the member representing Abak Federal constituency Hon. Emmanuel Ekon and his accomplice Hon. Nse Ntuen tendered official apology to the lawmakers.
The governor was said to have agreed on the terms until the member representing Nsit Ubium in the state house of assembly, Hon. Onofiok Luke, who was well beaten, betrayed the lawmakers and negotiated for a sum of 30 million naira to be given to him in order for him to refute the earlier reports on the media as well as to settle his boys who had earlier convened meetings with a view to unleashing mayhem on Hon. Emmanuel Ekon and Hon. Nse Ntuen for beating their ‘brother’.
An aide to the governor who did not want his name on print confirmed that as soon as the governor gave Onofiok the cash, he refuted the reports on the pages of newspapers, and the cyber spce
It was learnt the Barr. Onofiok however did not give a dime from the largesse to his boys, let alone disclosed that he had received the said amount from the governor to other members, rather he traveled out of the country.
This act which a group of lawmakers who stood by him, have described as the height of betrayal, has pitched Barr.Onofiok against other lawmakers who are his allies in the hallowed chambers.
Reacting to the incident, a lawmaker from Ikot Ekpene senatorial district who is a close ally to Hon.Onofiok Luke, and who was strongly opposed to the manhandling of Barr. Luke, has described the betrayal as a vice that is common to the Ibibio tribe, stressing that Ibibio People have never stood for a cause to the end.
‘can you imagine the act of betrayal? Someone we wanted to help by insisting that the duo of Hon. Emmanuel Ekon and Hon. Nse Ntuen should tender apology to the house has ended up betraying us for a token of 30 million naira. This is shameful!’ he exclaimed.
The lawmaker recalled how Onofiok Luke usually spearheaded the removal of the speaker of the house of assembly on several occasions, and promised never to follow Barr. Onofiok whom he described as a small boy and an opportunist again.
In the meantime, a cross section of ‘the boys’ have expressed their disbelief at the turn of event, pointing out that the lawmaker has by that singular act of betrayal subtracted the level of confidence the boys have on him.
Spokesperson of the group, who only gave his name as Boro said the boys are not happy with the new development, pointing out that they got to hear from another lawmaker in the house that the lawmaker had been settled by the Governor to keep quiet and issue a statement.
‘In this our business, there is no friend, no foe, a brother does not betray fellow brother, so for Onofiok Luke to have collected 30 Million naira without duly briefing us why he directed that we should back off from the planned revenge mission is against everything the “brotherhood” stands for. He should have understood that this was meant to be a serious revenge mission on the Annangs who had the nerves to physically assult him. Well, since he is our boss, let’s wait and see if he will “bless us” with our own share from the 30million naira. He knows that you don’t just call off a revenge mission like that when it is almost at the execution point” the spokesperson of “the Boys” hinted.
At presstime, it was gathered that, the governor later appeased other members of the state house of assembly with a sum of 20 million naira.
